winter solstice

It’s official: winter is here and Christmas is almost upon us! And believe it or not, I’ve watched almost all of my favorite Christmas movies, and I’m done making gifts. Done making gifts before the last hours of Christmas Eve, truly a miracle.

Under our tree is looking full this year, and the tree itself has a total of five strands of Christmas lights wrapped around it. At night it absolutely glows, and Dad has said on multiple occasions that it looks like it belongs in a movie.

I’m working on using every last day to post Christmas content on my YouTube page, because this seasonal aesthetic must be taken full advantage of!

shadowboxes

One of my newest creative projects has been shadowbox making.

I knew I wanted to make some as Christmas gifts, and I had already had this idea (and had pinned a whole bunch of inspiration onto a secret Pinterest board!) before we went on vacation.

I also knew that vacation would be a perfect time to collect some items; down by the coast there’s plenty of lovely pieces of nature, and of course the cherry on top is that much of it came from some of our favorite places.

halloween 2025

Halloween…?

Ahh yes, the holiday that people try to tell me I must celebrate before I’m allowed to put up my Christmas lights.

What a ridiculous notion 🤭

the true Halloween magic is that my camera placement was so perfect that you cannot see the piles of junk just over the stonewall in the neighbors’ yard *chef’s kiss*

pink frosting

As much as I love Valentine’s Day, I haven’t really done anything festive for it since I was a kid and my aunt threw parties dripping in pink, white, and red décor, chocolate candy, and homemade “lovebugs.”

I don’t mind though, I’m still very much in a hermit-y time of my life — I’m happy on my own, and don’t feel like sharing my time with many other people.

But there is one thing that I do enjoy doing for this fleeting February 14th holiday.

And that’s make a pink cake.

creative flow

I’ve been giving a lot of energy to my Etsy shop lately, and creativity is going in multiple directions. One day I’m spending hours in front of the sewing machine, the next I have a paintbrush in hand. I’ve also been creating videos to add to many of my listings (adding optional videos to Etsy listings is a fairly new feature on Etsy, but I’ve never used it until now). I feel like my shop looks really good right now, and is successfully reflecting my current creativity.

The hardest part for me when it comes to listing new items in my shop is still setting the prices for them. Does it ever get easier!?

My first reaction is to always think that I’m pricing things too high, because you can pick up things much cheaper from Target, T.J.Maxx, and Walmart (although those are all mass-produced items, unlike everything found in my shop).

But when I deduct the shipping cost (I offer free shipping on everything, so I pay $4 – $12 shipping on each order, depending on the items sold), and the Etsy fees (6.5% of each sale), and the taxes…don’t ask how much I’m left with for the time I put into my work.

Finance can get tight when you run your own business (as they are for me right now!), but this is really all I want to do, so I make it work, and I’m excited to keep branching out!

halloween

I didn’t have the idea to make any Halloween items for my shop until super recently, so yes, it’s too late to actually have any of them for this year’s holiday. But I figured that the real Halloween stans wouldn’t care.

I keep my Christmas lights up ’til March, so I’m not here to judge other people’s favorite holidays, or how long you choose to celebrate them for ✌🏼

I haven’t made any pillows in a few months, ever since I listed the first ones in my shop, but I’m back in the zone and I have a million ideas (winter/Christmas ones are next, but I also want to do some more non-seasonal ones: dogs, cats, seashells, mushrooms, etc.).

valentine’s day 2024

Girl culture is posting cute pictures that you took a week ago while you’re currently looking like something that crawled out of the trash ✌🏼 I’ve started to sleep better again at night, but if this persistent cough doesn’t go away soon, I’m going to cry.

I’ve been so brave about it, but I’m just a girl.

All in all, last year’s Valentine’s Day was much more spectacular than this one, with me and Mom collaborating on a pink strawberry + vanilla cake, and with us having the time and money to put together some cute little Valentine’s goodie baskets (remember them?? They were cute).

november 18, 2023

You know that warm Christmas-is-coming feeling that you used to get when you were a kid, and you never really get it anymore, but every year you look for it? And hope that it’ll appear? I’ve been feeling that warm Christmas-is-coming feeling lately, and I don’t know where it came from, but I want it to staaaaay ❤

On Saturday evening I was standing at checkout with a basket full of candy, and the woman standing behind me (holding a couple rolls of Christmas wrapping paper) commented that I was either going to the movies or had some crazy munchies. I told her that I was actually on my way to a gingerbread house party and how happy I was about it, as I hadn’t made one in years. She got really excited and said how much she loved making gingerbread houses, and she and the cashier both agreed that it was an amazing Christmas tradition. I finished paying, and the cashier and fellow shopper both gave me a big smile and said goodbye with a genuine, and exuberant, “I hope you have fun tonight!!”
