recent work

Some recent pet portrait work!

I’m currently working on a couple art pieces to donate to Woodstock Farm Sanctuary’s Harvest Picnic Gala. It’s always nice to take a break from dogs and cats for a minute and paint some cows and goats.

snail mail

Cute little notecards that I painted for Taylor’s birthday last month, because I’m not the only one in the family who enjoys sending snail mail.

Snail mail is very important, and I firmly believe that you should send handwritten notes to the people you love. When my great-gramma died a few years back and my grampa was cleaning her house out, he was surprised at how many letters he found from me tucked away in drawers. Years and years worth — and the best part? She always wrote back to me in her beautiful cursive, beginning each letter with a “Dear Jordie” ❤

wedding gift

When I say that I damn near cried when I was sent the reference photos for this custom portrait…what is this Pinterest-worthy love!? I’m obsessed.

The woman who purchased this portrait had been given one my pet portraits as a wedding gift from her friends, so she then turned around and ordered this beauty for her friends’ wedding gift.

I’ll admit that I was a bit nervous to get started on it (it’s been a hot minute since I’ve painted human faces) but I was so happy with the outcome, and now it’s wrapped up and en route to Canada ❤

(people have way too much trust in me)

pet portraits

Ahhh, pet portrait work. A real love/hate relationship for me, as some of you know.

Let me just say: as much as I love being able to share my artwork, there is a constant underlying stress when it comes to custom work like this. Especially when it’s dealing with peoples’ pets. Sometimes I think people may love their pets more than they love their own children (I mean, I can’t blame them…for 7 years my best friend was a guinea pig).

barn sanctuary auction items

Back in 2017 I took to Instagram to try and rustle up a following and audience to launch one of mine and my family’s grand ideas.

Spoiler alert: the idea was a joint-effort blog and business called Follow Us Home, which we successfully sustained for a couple years, before eventually shutting it down. I shared DIY tutorials; my mom shared vegan recipes, and all-natural cleaning products; my younger sister promoted sustainable, ecofriendly, and fair-trade clothing companies; and my older sister highlighted important charities that we supported. It was a wonderful, and exhausting, dream.

work

About a month ago I attended a birthday party while wearing a new maxi skirt that I had just sewn. I got multiple compliments on it (it did come out very nicely, if I do say so myself), and each time someone expressed interest in it, I offered them an exuberant: keep an eye on my blog, because I plan to get the sewing tutorial posted later this week!!!

At the time I had full intentions of doing just that, but here we are, almost a month later, and the maxi skirt has still not graced the page of my blog. A disappointment, I know.

hobbies

For some reason, I always think: normal people have a hobby that they love, and they love that hobby forever.

Now, I know that’s probably ridiculous, and not true in many (most?) cases, because of course our interests and hobbies can grow and change as we grow and change! But that thought is something that I bring into every new thing that I do.

I am constantly looking for something that I will love forever.
