I’m in love.
His name is Edgar.
He’s now 20 days old, and though his eyes are open, there ain’t nothin’ behind ’em. He looks absolutely clueless and soulless 100% of the time, and it’s absolutely infuriating how cute he is.
Although I knew kittens grew up fast, it’s still hard to believe how quickly he’s quadrupled in size since the day of his birth. And the size of his paws?? They’re tiny, but also massive. We all think he’s going to end up being a much larger cat than his mom.

Edgar, formerly known as “One”
He’s spent most of his life in his cozy little kittening box so far, but on Sunday night, when the fam and I went to visit him and Agnes, we brought him out into the big wide world for the first time. The big wide world being a small apartment, of course. He was so excited and full of energy — really getting to stretch his legs, explore, and get a bit spooked by some shiny cat toys.
Agnes has been such a good mother to him, and I’m so relieved and happy that she trusts us with her baby. She let us hold him and play with him (until he finally conked out under Dad’s hand) while she just lounged in her new tower (and got a little high on catnip).

photos of Edgar will now fill up the rest of the 2023 photo albums
Originally we thought he was just your typical black-and-white cat (like his mom), but now we’re seeing hints of possibly more of charcoal tabby stripes in the dark fur. We’ll have to see what changes as he continues to grow, but the spot on his chin is a pretty cute feature already.
I may not be able to call him mine, but at least that means I get to enjoy watching him grow up without having to pay for any of his expenses (heh) 🖤
