Movie theaters really aren’t my thing™.
It may have something to do with the fact that I had a panic attack in one when I was 8…and then again when I was 10…and again somewhere in my teen years. Not to mention the fact that someone is always choking on popcorn half-way through the movie (come on, people).
I mean, sure, I’ve had some really fun experiences at the movie theater too, but some memories just stick out more than others, ya know?
So movie theaters really aren’t my thing™.
Drive-ins on the other hand? Love ’em.

My sister Taylor and I have pretty much made an unspoken agreement to go at least once at some point every year.
Sometimes it’s just the two of us, other times we’re lucky enough to work around all the OG cousins’ work schedules to have a night out together. Either way, somehow we usually end up going when a meteor shower is peaking, and along with enjoying the movie we’re watching, we also get to enjoy multiple shooting stars right over the giant screen. It really just adds to the impeccable vibes.

I couple years ago all the cousins packed into the car to see Hocus Pocus, and last year we caught Dirty Dancing down in Misquamicut (we all agreed that it’s still one of the best movies ever made)
This year Taylor and I snagged our parking spot to see the Barbie movie — during opening weekend no less.
Look, I’m not one of those crazy tumblr bitches who is claiming that this movie is the pinnacle of all cinematic masterpieces, but I do know one thing, and that’s that you should not be able to enter the theater if you’re not wearing at least one article of pink clothing.
I mean, grow up.

I had this dress sitting in my closet for a hot minute (a thrifted find, of course), though it never got worn, because even though I love the pattern and fit, I found the length to be quite awkward (long story short: I saw her potential, and knew I could fix her). Props to the girlies who can pull off the just-under-the-knee length and look stunning while doing so, but my calves are just too damn skinny for it to be okay. I’ve got legs for days, and I’ve gotta show ‘em off.
So I finally chopped it — and then used the scraps to make a matching hair bow. Y’all know I’m either 100% or nothing.

Anyways, the movie was adorable and purposefully so over-the-top that there could be no faults found in it. After all, it’s not like Barbie isn’t attached to a bit of nostalgia for me; I’m pretty sure that Riley Mae and I were playing with them together for longer than was socially acceptable. The only thing that I’m disappointed in is that I didn’t actually tear up at all, even at the parts that were supposed to be dramatically touching. And like…I tear up at every movie I watch. Regardless of what genre it is. Maybe it was my fault; maybe my head was elsewhere (I will willingly take the blame).
I absolutely loved seeing all the other pretty Barbie girls attending the movie though (girls wearing pink give compliments to girls wearing pink), plus some very sweet Kens who were happy to assist me and Taylor take pictures (after I reminded them how to use an old point-and-shoot camera).
The whole experience was definitely a vibe — even the sunset made sure to match the energy of the night 🎀
