About a month ago I attended a birthday party while wearing a new maxi skirt that I had just sewn. I got multiple compliments on it (it did come out very nicely, if I do say so myself), and each time someone expressed interest in it, I offered them an exuberant: keep an eye on my blog, because I plan to get the sewing tutorial posted later this week!!!
At the time I had full intentions of doing just that, but here we are, almost a month later, and the maxi skirt has still not graced the page of my blog. A disappointment, I know.

But see, it’s not because I’m never going to post the tutorial (I absolutely plan to!), it’s simply because I’ve been busy.
Sewing.

when it comes to my real work…
I seem to have gotten into a pretty good work flow recently painting my pet portraits. I’m able to sit down and either finish one portrait per day (if they’re a small size), or one portrait every other day (if they’re a bigger size, or a double portrait).
It’s been working out well, and I haven’t been experiencing the pressure that comes with knowing that I’ve had unfinished orders sitting there for months on end, like I used to. And with my improved work flow, I’m not only able to get orders finished and shipped out quicker, I’ve also been able to keep my work and personal time more separate. So the first part of my day is dedicated to work. Then, in the afternoons, I have free time to do with what I wish. Take a walk outside? Sit with the chickens? Do some garden work? Sit in the sun? Take some photos? Work on a personal project?

lately I’ve been using most of my free time to sew
And I haven’t been able to tear myself away from the ever-growing pile of sewing projects long enough to take photos of the maxi skirts, or write up a clear tutorial for the blog!
I haven’t been sticking to exclusively sewing skirts either (although that might still be my favorite pattern so far), I have flared 70’s pants in the pile too, as well as some matching crop tops in various styles (which are patterns that I’m still continually trying to make perfect…tops are hard when they’re not made out of stretchy/forgiving fabric!!).
I’ve spent way too much money recently on vintage bedsheets from Etsy, and old out-of-print McCall’s sewing patterns!

anyways, all this is to say:
A maxi skirt tutorial will indeed grace my blog. As soon as the sewing bug has calmed down enough that I can dedicate an afternoon to getting the perfect photos of my finished projects. I’m excited to post everything I’ve been working on (and to have an opportunity to wear them out!), but until then, you’ll just have to enjoy this shameless self-promotion.
